The Last of Us: Game Review

Desperate Times, Desperate Measures The Last of Us is a first person shooter filled with gore, death, hopelessness, and violence. You play as Joel a smuggler in a post-apocalyptic America who is taking a young girl named Ellie to safety across the nation. You battle zombie hordes, other humans, and use any means necessary to win. The Last of Us is a wildly violent horror-fest. Players will be highly engaged by the story, much like The Walking Dead. However, the death and carnage are not worth the price of admission. This game is similar in many ways to DOOM (2016). The…

Game Review: Overwatch

Overwatch: Accessible FPS Overwatch is a fast-paced fantasy first-person shooter (fps) created by Blizzard Entertainment. Players choose heroes who are part of an international task force to bring peace and order to the world. The tagline for this game is: “The World Needs Heroes.” The gameplay and combat are mostly safe for young gamers. However, the pace of the game is highly-stimulating. Additionally, the game can only be played online and the competitors have been growing steadily less friendly. This game is one to watch for attitude and behavior changes in your gamer. The Verdict: Skip It Game Grade Parent Approved…

Prey (2017): Game Review

Prey (2017)

Prey Earns its Mature Rating: Prey is a first person shooter with elements of horror that takes place on a space station infested by aliens. The main character, Morgan Yu, must use a plethora of weapons (GLOO gun, shotgun, Q-Beam) and special abilities (super thermal, lift field, kinetic blast) to overcome the monster invasion and escape. This game was originally released in 2006, but never released the promised sequel. This new game is a re-vamping of the series. The newest version has less swearing and sexuality than the original. It still earns the mature rating due to intense violence, use…

Doom (2016): Game Review

DOOM: Review Details - why this game scored how it scored.

DOOM is Not Worth The Journey DOOM (2016) is part first-person shooter, part survival-horror. You play as a space marine stranded on Mars.  A portal has been opened to hell and you are the only one who can stop it. The game’s tagline is “Fight like hell”. I’ve said elsewhere that DOOM is a one-trick pony. The goal is to kill a variety of demons and purge the evil from this reality. Of course, this can only be done through incredibly intense and graphic violence. The Verdict: Skip It Parent Approved Hero: 2/10 Your hero fights for what he believes is good.…
